How to scale everything 2× in Adobe Illustrator (artboard + artwork)

If you need to double the size of both your artboard and all its contents, follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Select Everything

Press Ctrl + A (or Cmd + A on Mac) to select all objects on your artboard.

Step 2: Scale by 200%

  1. Press S to activate the Scale Tool.

  2. Click once anywhere on the canvas.

  3. In the pop-up window, type 200% and press Enter.

This will scale all selected objects to twice their size.

Step 3: Scale the Artboard

  1. Press Shift + O to activate the Artboard Tool.

  2. In the top control bar, find the Width and Height fields.

  3. To double the artboard size:

    • If the current size is 297, type *2 after it → like this: 297*2

    • Illustrator will automatically calculate the new value (594, in this case)

    • Do the same for the height.

Step 4 (Optional): Center the Artwork on the Artboard

  1. Press Ctrl + A (or Cmd + A) again to reselect everything.

  2. Go to the Align panel (or top bar)

  3. Choose:

    • Align to Artboard

    • Horizontal Align Center

    • Vertical Align Center

Bonus Tip: You Can Use Math in Input Fields!

Here’s a neat trick I discovered (and love!):

In Illustrator, you can enter math expressions in most size fields:

  • Type *2 to multiply

  • Type /2 to divide

  • Type +10 or -5 to add/subtract

  • Even type 10cm or 2in — and Illustrator will auto-convert to your current units

It works in artboard sizes, object dimensions, stroke widths, and more. Saves a ton of time!
